FIFA President Gianni Infantino has outlined his hopes and expectations for the World Cup in Russia next year.
"So we can expect fantastic matches at the World Cup. We have seen with the qualifiers that the football quality has been absolutely amazing for all the teams that have qualified. The top players will be there, the three finalists of this year's The Best awards will be playing in the World Cup with their teammates, so there is a lot of emotion there, so I'm really looking forward to the draw to see who will face who in the World Cup in 2018," Infantino said.
Infantino said that he expects the organisation of the tournament to run smoothly and that it will be a treat for the fans.
A decision on the implementation of the use of Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology will be taken in March next year.
Infantino offered these thoughts on the benefits of the technology.
"So Video Assistant Refereeing (VAR) is a topic which will be decided (upon) in March of next year, but the experience so far has been extremely positive to help the referee commit big mistakes which obviously as a human being he can do, and this benefits him and benefits the team and obviously we will have as well goal-line technology which will make sure that if a goal is scored, well... it will be awarded to the team that scored it!" said Infantino.
The tournament will get under way for real in Russia on June 14th next year.
