IOC starts talks on DPRK's participation at Winter Olympics

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) on Saturday started a four-party meeting to discuss the participation of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) at the upcoming PyeongChang Winter Olympics.

Representatives of the PyeongChang 2018 Organizing Committee and delegations from the national Olympic committees of the DPRK and the Republic of Korea (ROK) are attending the meeting hosted by the IOC in Lausanne.

After three rounds of talks at the truce village of Panmunjom earlier this month, the two countries have reached a historic agreement. 

According to an announcement released on Wednesday, the two sides will march together at the opening ceremony and form a united women's ice hockey team for the PyeongChang Winter Olympics, which will be held February 9 to 25.

The DPRK will also send a 230-member cheering squad, a 30-strong taekwondo demonstration team, as well as an art troupe comprising more than 140 members, to the ROK for the Games.
