Wu, the Sochi 2014 silver medalist, clocked 39.8 seconds in the quarterfinal, 0.137 off the previous record set by American John Celski in Calgary, Canada, in 2012.

The 23-year-old will be possibly China's last hopes of winning a gold medal at these Games.

With four days to go at the PyeongChang Olympics, China, next host of the Winter Olympics, is still without a gold and stands 19th on the medals table with five silver and two bronze medals.
