13-year-old swimmer China's youngest medalist at Asian Games

13-year-old swimmer Wang Yichun has become China's youngest medalist ever at the Asian Games, winning a silver medal in the women's 50 meter butterfly in Jakarta. 

Wang is also the youngest athlete in the Chinese delegation in Indonesia, reports thepaper.cn. 

Wang finished half a second behind winner Rikako Ikee, who is considered Japan's big hope in the pool for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.

Wang, hailing from Shandong Province, started swimming at the age of 5. She won 4 gold medals and 1 silver medal in the teenagers' events at China's National Games in August, 2017. She followed that up with 2 gold medals and one silver medal at China's National Championships two months later.
