Chinese teenager Wang wins girls' singles title at US Open

Chinese teenager Wang Xiyu defeated Clara Burel from France to win the first girls' singles title at a Grand Slam event for China at US Open on Sunday.

The 17-year-old needed one hour and 20 minutes to beat Burel 7-6(4), 6-2 in the final held in the newly revamped Louis Armstrong Stadium.

After claiming the hotly contested opening set, Wang seemed confident and played a more aggressive game to take control.

"In the first set, I was a little bit nervous. But I try to get used to the big court, try to enjoy the match. On the Grand Slam level, I think I need to be more patient to get the victory and I did it," Wang said after the match.

Wang, who's based in Beijing and will be looking to play on pro tour next season, said she got much advice from Li Na, China's first Grand Slam winner.

"I watched some matches of Li Na, and she gave me some suggestions to play the final," said Wang, adding that she will be first aiming for the top 200 finish in professional tour and then the top 10 in future.
