Formula 3 driver Sophia Floersch spoke publicly for the first time since a crash more than a week ago at the Macau Grand Prix, which left her with a spinal fracture.

The 17-year-old German said she is thankful to be alive and expected to come back and race again next year.

"I think the video says all, to be honest. It was my first ever big crash, and it took me some while to get over it, but I am over it now, but I think now a new chapter starts. And yeah, as I said, it was a bad crash, but the Van Amersfoort has a very good stable chassis, and I am still here, walking, everything is good, and I will be back racing, and chasing my dream."

Doctors in Macau said that while it may take months for Floersch to make a full recovery, she has already made significant improvement, and expect that she will eventually be able to return to racing.

Races were brought to a halt at the Formula 3 Macau Grand Prix on November 18 after Floersch's crash.

The teenage driver lost control of her car and catapulted off the track before flying full-force over the barriers and into a photographers' bunker.
