"I am very happy to be the new World Champion. The season went good. At the beginning, I wasn't sure to win, because the first part of the season was more easy. But after the middle, it start to be a little bit more difficult. But winning by a point or more is the same, and the title is completely the same," Carrasco said.
"I am happy to achieve this. And I am very thankful to all the people who help me to be here and win the championship, and I hope to come back here next year."
Fellow Spaniard Marc Marquez collected his award following a stellar season to win his record breaking fifth MotoGP world champion.
Other winners included motocross racer Jeffrey Herlings who became the MXGP world champion and Tai Woffinden who claimed his third speedway Grand Prix title.
