Schmidt was appointed as the coach of Beijing Guoan two years ago and the capital team managed 46 wins and 14 draws in 83 games during his spell. The German also led Beijing Guoan to lift the Chinese Football Association Cup last season, ending years of trophy drought.

"The Club wishes to say a special thank you to Roger for his passion and commitment during his two years with us," read a statement.

Schmidt's successor Genesio will take over the team to the end of the season, according to the club.

Born in 1966, the Frenchman came through the youth ranks of Lyon and joined the first team squad at the age of 19 before moving to another French side Nice.

Genesio started his coaching career after his retirement and became the head coach of Lyon in 2015.

Beijing Guoan expected Genesio could lead the club to a better performance in the rest of the season.

Meanwhile, Beijing Guoan also announced midfielder Fernando Lucas Martins joined the club from Russian Premier League side Moscow Spartak on a loan deal. The Brazilian will wear No.11 jersey.
