The Nordic Spring International Peace and Culture Festival has taken place at the Jordbro Cultural Center south of Stockholm, Sweden over the weekend, with the event taking on a distinctly Chinese cultural style.

The festival was organized by the China-Europe Cultural Association in cooperation with a number of other Chinese associations.

Xuefei Chen Axelsson, President of China-Europe Cultural Association, said the purpose of the Nordic Spring International Peace and Cultural Festival is to stress Chinese culture, enrich people's lives and promote cultural exchanges between China and Europe.

She stressed the recent terrorist attacks in Stockholm and other European cities, as well as tensions on the Korean Peninsula, have driven a need for people to come together to better understand one-another.

"We choose to promote peace and development with culture. Only when we have a peaceful environment, can we talk about development.  We believe cultural exchanges can promote understanding and trust between peoples and countries.  Let's support the "belt and road” strategy forward by Chinese President Xi Jinping, which is expected to help avoid conflicts caused by geopolitics. The festival has included a variety of Chinese artistic performances.

Nobel Prize winner Bob Dylan's song "Blowing in the Wind" was also both read in Chinese and sung in English by Chen Xuefei.

Guo Yanhang, Councilor at the Chinese Embassy in Sweden, attended the festival.

"You are using this festival as a way to enhance Chinese culture, bilateral cultural exchanges between China and Sweden, as well as China and European countries. It is also a good chance to promote the "one road one belt" strategy. This is a high level and well organized event, very meaningful."

A total of 130 honorary guests, as well as members of the China-Europe Cultural Association, attended the festival.
