37 Chinese tourists contacted by officials after Lombok earthquake

A powerful earthquake struck the Indonesian tourist island of Lombok on Sunday, killing at least 82 people and shaking neighboring Bali, one week after another quake killed more than a dozen people.

Currently, there are about 200 Chinese tourists on Longmu Island. The Consulate-general of the People's Republic of China in Denpasar has contacted 37 Chinese tourists so far, including eight from Hong Kong, who are all said to be in good condition. Some of them have left Longmu Island already.

The Consulate General is in contact with local authorities and is urging Indonesia to step up rescue efforts to ensure the safety of Chinese tourists. All Chinese tourists are expected to leave Longmu Island soon.
