Two Chinese citizens were killed and 13 others injured in a bus crash in Russia's far eastern Primorye territory, Chinese Foreign Ministry and a consulate official in Vladivostok confirmed on Tuesday.

A tourist bus, from Dongning City of northern China's Heilongjiang Province to Russia's port city of Vladivostok, overturned near the city of Ussuriysk at 16:30 local time (0630 GMT) on Tuesday, the Center for Consular Assistance and Protection of the Chinese Foreign Ministry said on its social media account.

A total of 43 Chinese tourists were on the bus and 10 of the 13 injured have been discharged from hospital, said Chinese Consul-General in Vladivostok Yan Wenbin.

Chinese Consulate General in Vladivostok has dispatched a team to the accident scene and is coordinating with relevant parties.

According to preliminary data, the accident occurred as a result of "sharp deterioration in the health status of the driver," a statement on the website of Primorye Governor Oleg Kozhemyako said.

Kozhemyako extended condolences to the families of the Chinese victims in the accident, and to the Chinese consul-general in Vladivostok, the statement said.

An investigation into the cause of the accident is still underway.
