Former U.S. vice president signs "China is not an enemy" open letter
Former United States Vice President Walter Frederick "Fritz" Mondale along with 100 other people have added their names to an open letter to President Donald Trump and the U.S. Congress that addresses their concerns about the country's current policies towards China.
The letter now has twice the number of signatories it did when it was first published by The Washington Post on July 3.

The letter was written by five leading experts, including university professors, ambassador, and government officials. It articulated seven issues covering America's current approach and policies towards China, the right balance between these two powers, fair play rules, global leadership, China's military power, and international cooperation.

A report by China National Radio quoted Guo Xiangang, a member of the Chinese Academy of International Studies, saying that the open letter reflects the aspirations of the two countries to develop a stable and cooperative relationship that benefits both sides. Guo also said that the growing number of signatures highlights the growing concern of American scholars over the state of China-U.S. ties, and fears about a shift from cooperation to confrontation.
