Inmates in the United States face human rights abuses at every stage of the criminal justice system. These abuses include being denied adequate medical care and mental health treatment, being locked in solidarity confinement for long periods of time, and being left vulnerable to sexual assault by staff and prisoners.

For almost 30 years, Mr. Wright and his organization has been working to reveal the stories of these human rights violations.

Our reporter Xu Yawen recently spoke with Mr. Wright from the Human Rights Defense Center, and filed this report.
