The document - the CPC Central Committee's decision on some major issues concerning how to uphold and improve the system of socialism with Chinese characteristics and advance the modernization of China's system and capacity for governance - was adopted at the just-concluded fourth plenary session of the 19th CPC Central Committee.
Wang Yang, Wang Huning and Han Zheng, who are members of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, attended the symposium, during which Wang Huning gave an introduction to the considerations of the CPC Central Committee and the drafting of the document, according to an official statement issued on Friday.
Xi stressed that in upholding and improving the system of socialism with Chinese characteristics and advancing the modernization of China's system and capacity for governance, it was necessary to give full play to the strengths of the united front and build broad consensus.
Non-communist parties, the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce (ACFIC), and personages without party affiliation have much to do in upholding and improving the system of socialism with Chinese characteristics and advancing the modernization of China's system and capacity for governance, he said.
Speaking at the symposium, leaders of non-communist parties and the ACFIC, as well as a representative of personages without party affiliation, voiced their support to the draft decision and gave comments and suggestions.
Xi highlighted the value of their input.
He said the fourth plenary session of the 19th CPC Central Committee, held at the historical juncture for realizing the two centenary goals, would make a political declaration on upholding and improving the system of socialism with Chinese characteristics and advancing the modernization of China's system and capacity for governance.
China's system and capacity for governance are a crystallization of the system of socialism with Chinese characteristics and its enforcement capability, Xi said.
"What we need to do now is to advance the modernization of China's system and capacity for governance in the practice of upholding and improving the system of socialism with Chinese characteristics," he said.
