【解释】1. A person serving a life sentence in prison 2. A person who spends their life in a particular career or place.

【例句】

- He is one of the few lifers here in the institute. He loves his profession.

 他是单位的老人之一,爱这份终身事业,一辈子都贡献在这里了。

 Tā shì dānwèi de lǎorén zhī yī, ài zhè fèn zhōngshēn shìyè, yībèizi dōu gòngxiàn zài zhèlǐle.

- I met an old couple in the remote village. They're are lifers. Never have had a chance to leave the big mountains.

 我在那个偏僻的村里见到了一对老人,他们在那里住了一辈子,从来没有机会离开过这些大山。

 Wǒ zài nàgè piānpì de cūnlǐ jiàn dàole yī duì lǎorén, tāmen zài nàlǐ zhùle yībèizi, cónglái méiyǒu jīhuì líkāiguò zhèxiē dàshān.
