Sympathy With One of Its Kind
兔 means hare or rabbit, 死 is to die or death. 狐 in Chinese is fox, and 悲 here means to weep over, to be sad, or to grieve at. The Chinee people usually use this idiom to indicate how people feel for the loss of one associated with them. A fox in Chinese culture usually is considered a somewhat cagey animal with a low moral threshold. As such, we normally use this term to reflect the death of an immoral person whose rival laments his death.
Literal meaning: the fox is sad at the death of the hare
Explanation: sympathy with one of its kind
