Built some 2,200 years ago during the reign of China's first emperor, Qin Shihuang, the ancient military transport corridor runs from today's Shaanxi Province, home to the former Qin capital Chang'an (present day Xi'an) through Gansu and into Inner Mongolia. The 'highway' covers a distance of some 750 kilometers, running through plains, mountains, grasslands and deserts. [Photo: Chinanews.com]
