Luoyang home to world's largest population of South China tigers

A group of South China tigers, which is listed as one of the world's top ten endangered species, can be found living at Wangcheng Park Zoo in Luoyang City, Henan Province. Extinct in the wild, there are 178 South China tigers in China and Luoyang is home to 33 of them.

China has been home for the largest number of the species for five consecutive years. Through artificial breeding, the number of tigers has been slowly rising. Ten tiger cubs have been born so far this year. Each year, Luoyang exchanges a number of South China tigers with members of the species in other zoos in order to raise the survival rate, which can be impacted by inbreeding.
