Pebble Island is the fifth largest island among Falkland archipelago, a British overseas territory in the southwest Atlantic Ocean also claimed by Argentina. Pebble Island is now being sold by its owners, whose descendants bought it around 150 years ago. A merchant named John Markham Dean bought it from the British government in 1869, reports The Times. Dean's descendant, Claire Harris, now says none of the family is now in a position to maintain the island, prompting them to put it up for sale. Pebble Island gets its name from the colorful pebbles on its shore. It's 39.9 square miles in total, with a varied landscape, including hills, cliffs, beaches and lakes. The island is also home to five kinds of penguins, 42 kinds of birds and more than 6,000 sheep. [Photo: IC]
