Undated photo shows the tiny paper birds made by an Indian couple. The couple spent four to eight hours a day making the detailed creatures for a year. Each one of the paper birds is different, ranging from an Australian pelican to a baby hummingbird, a blue jay to an osprey. [Photo: IC]

The idea for their project came to Nayan and Viashali, both in their late twenties, last year when they began observing the birds in their local area.

They decided to bring the joy of these birds to others through art. The birds are a true work of precision, with layers of hand-cut details, made more difficult to color and cut because of their size. Each bird is about an inch long from head to tail.

The couple started the project as a month-long challenge, and extended the project to a whole year. Nayan was quoted as saying, "The response has been overwhelming, we cannot explain how much love this series has got."
