"My name is 马思雨,我是三年级汉语专业的学生  [I am in my third and final year at university and I am majoring in Chinese Studies.

I am passionate about China! I am fascinated by Chinese culture and my studies have further kindled and ignited this fascination. I recently won the National Chinese Bridge Competition held in South Africa. I am currently 20 years old and I intend on continuing my studies in Mandarin to postgraduate level. I am also a research assistant at the Center for Chinese Studies where I have learned a great deal about the current bilateral and multilateral relations that China is engaging in with African countries. I am an African student learning about a culture that is significantly different to my own. Yet this experience has enriched me greatly and I am forever grateful for it! I believe that through meaningful interaction, African students and Africans, in general, can learn a lot from interactions with China and from understanding how Chinese people live their lives and how they interact with others. I am of the opinion that communication is crucial in the process of meaningful engagement. It would be a privilege to represent my country through this engagement with other Chinese students. I am excited to learn more about China and to see what similarities and differences Chinese and South African students share. "
