Trier celebrates the 200th anniversary of Karl Marx's birth
With a history stretching back 2,000 years, the City of Trier in southwest Germany is one of the oldest cities in the country. The city's gates dating back to Roman times, its magnificent palace gardens, and its Baroque-style residential buildings all make the city a popular tourist destination.
One of the most important reasons that the city attracts over 150,000 visitors from China each year is that the city was the birthplace of Karl Marx. To mark the 200th anniversary of his birth, a variety of celebrations are being held in the city. Visitors can buy souvenirs like rubber ducks with Marx's hair. And the city has installed traffic lights in the shape of a cartoon Karl Marx.
