Uygur Muqam of Xinjiang
Uygur Muqam is a general term used to describe various types of Muqam in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.
With a history of thousands of years, Uygur Muqam is known as a record of communication between China and its western neighbors throughout history. It includes songs, dances, folk and classical music and is characterized by diverse content, choreography, musical styles and instruments.
In 2008, Uygur Muqam of Xinjiang was formally inscribed on UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage List.
