SCO Youngsters build friendships and understanding at Beijing camp

After a week of colorful events in Shanghai and Beijing, the 2nd Shanghai Cooperation Organization Youth Campus has come to a close.

About 200 youngsters from the eight SCO member states and two observer countries came together for a variety of activities, including a young entrepreneurs' roundtable conference, culture seminar, and specialist lectures.

The aim of the event was to enhance member states and observers' understanding about China and to encourage youngsters from these countries to take part in the process of building the "Belt and Road" project, which brings together more than 60 countries in economic, infrastructure and cultural cooperation.

After seven-days, many youngsters said they now knew more about China, and had established close friendships with youngsters from other countries. They also said that they would like to devote themselves to peaceful regional development and help promote the ideals of the "Belt and Road" project in the future.

Speaking during the Shanghai Cooperation Organization's summit in the Russian city of Ufa in 2015, Chinese president Xi Jinping announced that the SCO Youth Campus would be held annually for five years.

The SCO is an intergovernmental international organization founded in Shanghai in 2001 which has its main goals the strengthening of mutual trust and friendship among the member states, along with promoting effective cooperation in many areas, for example, politics, trade, technology, culture, and education.
