Lauren Child: New Children's Laureate worried about equality in books

The new Children's Laureate named Lauren Child believes Boys don't like reading books in which girls are the main characters in the story, and it creates problems to achieve gender equality. 

Child, who is the author of Charlie and Lola and Clarice Bean series, and she is the 10th  official champion of children's books.

It seems that girls do not mind reading books about boys, she is worried about why most boys are more reluctant to read books or watch films about girls.

Sales figures reportedly back up the notion that books with girls as main characters are less popular than those about boys.

She said: "You could quite easily change a character's name to a boy's name and just changing a few details in the book and it would work just the same.
