Beijing subway commuters can now return their transport card at 8 subway stations across the city. They will be refunded their 20-yuan deposit as well as the remaining balance on the card. These 8 subway stations are Yonganli on Line 1, Qingnianlu on Line 6, Guangqumennei on Line 7, Fengtai Science Park on Line 9, Guomao and Shoujingmao on Line 10, and Beishantan and Wangjing East on Line 15.

Commuters can enjoy this service thanks to a new type of machine. These multi-functional machines allow commuters to top up their transport cards, purchase fares, return transport cards, and search for information if they do not know how to travel to their destinations. Following the instructions on the machine, commuters need to turn on their Alipay app on their smartphone, scan the QR code, obtain a verification code, and the cash will be successfully transferred to the person's Alipay account immediately.

These new machines have one more convenient function. Commuters in Beijing use the subway if they have a transport card, or any device with a transport card function. Now they can top up their account on these machines with a smart bracelet, smartphone, or personalized mini-transport card. Traditional ticket machines can only top up regular transport cards. The new machines can provide this service because passengers can place their card or devices on the reader instead of inserting the card into the machine.

Eventually, this new service will be available at every subway station in Beijing.
