Some hotels guests(客人 kèrén) in Wuhan, capital of Hubei Province, will soon be able to check out whether their bedding(床品 chuángpǐn) and towels(毛巾 máojīn) have been washed properly by scanning(扫描 sǎomiáo) a QR code(二维码 èr wéi mǎ).

The option has been made available by a newly-launched eco-friendly laundry service in the city.

Dubbed as Wuhan's first green washing base, all linen handled by the company, including sheets(床单 chuángdān), towels, quilt covers(被罩 bèizhào), will be embedded with a thin, high-temperature resistant chip(芯片 xīnpiàn) that enables a hotel easily to monitor its supplies, and allows hotel guests to access information about their laundry via a QR code.

The new company claims to be able to wash one kilogram of linen products using 7 liters of water, and that one employee will be able to wash 1.6 tons of linen in eight hours.

It claims to be much more efficient and environmentally-friendly than other conventional laundry services, which normally use 30 liters of water for one kilogram of linen, and that one employee usually washes no more than 0.5 ton of linen in eight hours.

Besides, the base will reportedly use a non-phosphorus detergent, and will have wastewater treatment equipment to minimize its water pollution. The water used for cleaning will be recycled tap water that has been purified, which is said to make the washed materials softer and more skin-friendly.

According to the Development and Reform Commission in Wuhan, the city has 3,432 hotels, most of which rely on a third-party laundry service, with approximately(大约 dàyuē) 1,000 tons of laundry handled daily.

Last year the city closed 79 of its 110 laundry companies to better cope with stricter environmental protection requirements, a move that also decreased the daily laundry capacity to 300 tons.
