As temperatures rise, the salt lake changes colors in Yuncheng, Shanxi Province, making it a popular tourist attraction. It is said the lake formed about 500 million years ago, during the early Cenozoic Era, and spans approximately 120 square km. Its color changes, particularly into red, on hot days due to microorganisms called Dunaliella salina, a type of micro-algae that appears in salt lakes. [Photo: VCG]
