Chinese navy's new training ship begins voyage

The Qijiguang naval training ship sets sail from Dalian, northeast China's Liaoning Province, on Sunday, September 17, 2017. The new ship, carrying 549 naval officers and soldiers, started a 76-day training voyage on Sunday and will visit Portugal, Italy, Sri Lanka and Thailand. Named after the Ming Dynasty military general Qi Jiguang, the new ship was commissioned in February. It is 163 meters long and 22 meters wide, with a full load displacement of 9,000 tonnes and a maximum speed of 22 knots, making it the largest and most advanced training ship in the Chinese navy fleet.
