People across China are on holiday this weekend for Qingming, also known as Tomb Sweeping Day. The literal meaning of Qingming is "clear and bright". It's one of the 24 dates that divide the solar day on the traditional Chinese calendar. It heralds rising temperatures and increasing rainfall, which makes it an ideal time for plowing and sowing.

One of the most important and long-lasting customs for Qingming is called "taqing", which means spring outing. It's a time when people take a break from work and head outside to enjoy being close to nature.
