Queen Elizabeth II celebrates Maundy Thursday
Queen Elizabeth II celebrated Maundy Thursday, a Christian holy day celebrated the Thursday before Easter, with the yearly tradition of handing out red purses filled with coins.
According to the royal family, each commemorative purse contains a 5 British pounds commemorating the 200th anniversary of Queen Victoria's birth. The purses also included 50p coin featuring Sherlock Holmes. Every year, the Queen visits a different cathedral in Britain, where she distributes the gifts according to her age: Since the monarch is turning 93 this weekend, she handed out coins to 93 men and 93 women selected from among the general public.
For this special occasion, Princess Eugenie of York made a rare appearance with her grandmother and took part in the festivities at St. George's Chapel in Windsor.
