Why many people prefer not to spend holidays at home?

"I'll be home for Christmas. You can count on me," go the words to a classic Christmas tune. For many, the holidays are a time of year where everyone is in a better mood. There is family time as well as parties, delicious treats and presents.

But this is not the case for everyone. Some face evil stepparents, judgmental family members and the dreaded small talk with the ones you are forced to spend your hard-earned holiday time with each year.

The US is set to have a record number of travelers during Christmas this year, according to a Reuters article. So, why are many people opting out of a holiday at home? With the holiday season drawing near and Chinese New Year just around the corner, Metropolitan from Global Times spoke to Chinese and expats to find out if these feelings are shared when it comes to going home for the holidays.
