Expats experience the charm of Peking Opera

The Third International Peking Opera Culture and Art Exchange Event kicked off on Dec.23 in Beijing, aiming to exhibit the charm of this fascinating art form. Foreign experts from 22 countries, including Britain, Germany, Australia, Spain, and Vietnam, participated in this event, as well as international students and expats.

Participants appreciated a fine selection of original plays during the event, accompanied by an introduction of the basic knowledge about this traditional Chinese opera. The plays were performed by professional actors, teachers and young students. After that, participants interacted with professionals and learnt a specific aria. At the end of the event, participants dressed in costumes and wore make-up, and performed what they just learnt on stage.

Vietnamese twins currently studying in the Beijing Ritan High School, Chen Huiying and Chen Huichun, said they started liking Peking opera after taking part in this event. They also expressed their hope they could participate in similar events in the future.
