Sichuan Water-Themed Festival to Highlight Tourism and Water Conservation
A water-themed tourism festival is to be held in the city of Dujiangyan, Sichuan province.
Local officials say the 2017 China Dujiangyan Li Bing Culture International Tourism Festival will start on July 17th.
The festival centers on the lives and stories of Li Bing, an ancient Chinese official and engineer, who had overseen the construction of the Dujiangyan irrigation system over 2,200 years ago.
The irrigation system has since given the flood-plagued people along the banks of Minjiang River a peaceful and affluent lifestyle.
Thanks to the project, Minjiang River irrigates nearly 70,000 hectares of farmland in Sichuan and has won the province the reputation of "the land of abundance".
Local governments organize the festival both in memory of Li Bing and to attract tourists from outside the region.
Major events held during the festival are set to feature water conservation and harmony between man and nature.
