Read between the lines

【中文】看出字里行间的意思，体会言外之意

     Kàn chū zìlǐhángjiān de yìsi, tǐhuì yánwàizhīyì 

【解释】When you read between the lines you try to understand what someone implies, but doesn't openly state, when they say or write something.

【例句】

-When the Robinsons read their father's will, they tried to read between the lines to find out if he hid money somewhere.

 当罗宾逊一家阅读他们父亲的遗嘱时，他们尝试着找出字里行间的意思看他是不是把钱放在了别的地方。

 Dāng Luōbīnxùn yījiā yuèdú tāmen fùqīn de yízhǔ shí, tāmen chángshìzhe zhǎo chū zìlǐhángjiān de yìsi kàn tā shì bùshì bǎ qián fàng zàile bié dì dìfāng.

-Men need to read between the lines when listening to their girlfriends. Often times "no" means "yes".

 男人在听他们的女友讲话时需要体会言外之意。很多时候“不”的意思是“是”。

 Nánrén zài tīng tāmen de nǚyǒu jiǎnghuà shí xūyào tǐhuì yánwàizhīyì. Hěnduō shíhòu “bù” de yìsi shì “shì”.
