62岁失独老人产子 62-year-old woman who lost only child years ago gives birth

A 62-year-old woman surnamed Tan gave birth a week ago at a hospital in the city of Xiangtan in central China's Hunan Province.

The woman lost her only(唯一的 wéiyī de) child six years ago. She and her family went through a lot of suffering(痛苦 tòngkǔ) because of this tragedy, so the couple turned to assisted reproductive technology and successfully got pregnant(怀孕 huáiyùn) at the beginning of this year.

The woman suffered from congestive heart failure, gestational diabetes, and polyhydramnios during her pregnancy.

The mother has many well-wishers on social media, unlike a 67-year-old woman who bore twins several months ago. She was criticized online as she already had children and grandchildren. Many netizens showed concern that the couple is not physically capable of raising(抚养 fǔyǎng) the twins because of their age.
