Shanty town destroyed by controlled explosion in Henan

Six buildings as part of a shanty town in Henan's provincial capital, Zhengzhou, have been demolished in a controlled explosion involving over 550 kilograms of explosives. The buildings ranged from 7 to 12 storeys high, and covered 20,000 square meters. To try to minimize the dust, the walls of the buildings were pre-wetted. The rubble is also being doused with water. The former shanty town is set to be replaced by a new business complex, which will include restaurants, entertainment facilities and hotels to be built over the coming three to five years.
