Water Releasing Ceremony impresses tourists in Sichuan

Each year in early April, the Water Releasing Festival is held in the city of Dujiangyan in Sichuan Province. The city is named after an ancient water conservancy project started in around 250 B.C. It is still used today for irrigation and flood control. The festival commemorates Li Bing and his son, who led its construction.

The ceremony for the Water Releasing Festival pays homage to ancient wisdom and offers prayers for blessings on local residents. Performers follow the ceremonial rituals of worship and the release of water just as their forebears did more than 2,000 years ago.
