Chinese artist wows visitors in L.A.
"In Just a Blink of an Eye," performance art created by Chinese artist Xu Zhen, wowed thousands of visitors to the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles when it made its West Coast US debut.
Four "actors" appear to be falling back but are caught mid-air, in unnatural poses, wearing street clothes. They come from various racial backgrounds.
Xu has been called one of the "bad boys of Chinese contemporary art," and he often mixes cultural references with global issues. His "MadeIn" company created in 2009 is a byproduct of the often seen "Made in China" label in many products stocked around the world. Xu himself is the CEO of the Warholian-like art factory.
The Shanghai-based artist often fuses various disciplines including performance art, video, and dance, using the body as a vehicle for which to express his ideas of branding, commercialization, and globalization -- usually with humor and wit.
