The 24th Annual Lantern festival was held on the Zijiang River in Ziyuan County, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region on Friday, August 24, 2018.

Historically, the Zijiang River was a transportation and economic artery in the area. During the Qing Dynasty, the river transportation industry prospered, but there were also frequent accidents. Traditionally, in order to pay homage to the dead, people floated lanterns in order to mourn for loved ones and pray for peace in the form of drifting river lights.

However, now with less accidents happening on the river, the lantern festival has become a way to wish for blessings and joy.

The county has been steadily growing this festival every year, which has developed local tourism and has helped boost the economy.
