Hylton Li Yuetong
"My name is Yuetong (Hylton) Li. I am a second year student at the University of Stellenbosch, studying BSc Viticulture & Oenology. My final objective is to become an ultimate master sommelier (wine taster).
Throughout my school career I have been a hardworking individual who remained focused on the goal of passing matric with marks good enough to study at university. I believe that it was this focus that separated me from many of my peers. I was often chosen either by teachers or fellow group members to be the group leader when my classmate and I were assigned group tasks. It is these factors that eventually led me to be placed among the higher achieving matriculants in my school.
Now that my goal of being accepted at a tertiary institution has been reached, I have set my sights on new goals; to get a degree in BSc Viticulture & Oenology, with my major focus on the study of wines. Wine, especially the red variety, has been studied extensively over many years with impressive findings which suggests that wine may promote a longer lifespan, protect against certain cancers, improve one’s mental health, and provide benefits to the heart. Due to these possible benefits that wine has, I found it essential and necessary to adapt to the needs of the people. I would be honoured to contribute to this cycle in any way I can. With the skills I acquire, I would be able to help both the people living in South Africa and China in moving forward in terms of new wine developments."
