Thousands of locals watched the annual horse racing festival in Yangbajing Town, Tibet earlier this month.

48 horses were entered into the 10 km race. All of the riders were local children aged 9-13.

13 riders and horses out of the top 15 will be chosen to attend the upcoming horse racing festival of Damxung County on behalf of Yangbajing Town.

The annual horse racing festival in Damxung County has a history of over 300 years. Along with the long-distance horse race, games and events at the festival include a short-distance horse race, tug-of-war, stone-lifting, dancing and an ethnic costume show.

This year's horse racing festival in Damxung County will be held in August, with participants from eight towns and villages under the county's jurisdiction attending the festival.

It is a tradition for local people to watch horse races.
