An Australian economist says U.S. President Donald Trump's proposal to impose massive tariffs on imports from China will undermine the rules-based order on world trade.

Dr. James Laurenceson, Professor and Deputy Director of the Australia-China Relations Institute at the University of Technology Sydney, also believes that the China-US trade is all about competition, which should not be an excuse for imposing tariffs.
