North Korean BBQ diplomacy

Barbecue restauranteur, once a North Korean intermediary, speaks on Kim summit. Bobby Egan is known for more than just his famous barbecue ribs, at his New Jersey restaurant Cubby's; he was known as one of the most trusted advisors to North Korea, after an introduction was made by Vietnamese diplomats who had enjoyed his food. 

During decades with no official channels of communication between North Korea and the US, Egan built relationships with UN diplomats and former Ambassador Han Song-ryol. He considers himself a trusted advisor to North Korea but says he worked closely with the US government to facilitate a relationship under Kim Jong-il's leadership. For years, Egan created public appearances for the delegation: from baseball games, to fishing trips, and traveled back and forth to North Korea.
