Macaws in Caracas
As the golden hour begins, flocks of macaws fly through Caracas skies. The echo of their cries reverberates in the buildings - a sound well known by Caracas residents. The birds were introduced to Caracas 40 years ago. Now hundreds - perhaps thousands - of their blue and yellow, red and green, and pure green descendants cruise above the city, alighting on antennae, roofs, and windowsills, providing a colorful diversion to the daily grind.
Originally from rainforests, macaws have adapted well to Caracas thanks to the exuberant tropical foliage surging between skyscrapers. And thousands of people let the macaws rest by their windows or makes homes for them on their terraces.
