Modern Standard Gauge Railway in Kenya
The Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) is a flagship Kenyan government project built with financing from China. The SGR project will help the Kenyan government in their goal of making the east African nation a middle-income country by 2030.
The SGR project has opened up the Kenyan hinterland for business and investment. It has brought convenience to the life of local business people like Christopher Nzioka, who regularly travels around the country for work. And it is promoting trade among east African countries as well as with the rest of the world.
The freight service is expected to lower the cost of freight transport between the Port of Mombasa and the Nairobi Inland Container Depot and Freight Terminus. The line is being extended by another 120 kilometers to Naivasha, a town located north west of Nairobi.
