White candles lit in Xiangyang to see Jin Yong off

Jin Yong, China's most celebrated martial arts novelist and essayist, passed away in Hong Kong at 94 after a long illness on Tuesday, October 30. On Tuesday night, people spontaneously lit white candles on the ancient city wall of Xiangyang, Hubei province to see him off and pay their last respects. 

Xiang yang is the city where Jin Yong has mentioned frequently in his chivalry stories The Legend of the Condor Heroes and The Return of the Condor Heroes.The protagonist Guo Jing and Huang Rong defended Xiangyang for decades and died heroically in battle. This story is widely known in China.This year, the official English version of The Legend of the Condor Heroes first volume was released to the world by the British Maclehose Press. The referral text calls it "the Chinese version of Game of Thrones".
