Shan Xinghua, director of technology with 12306 China Railway, paperless train travel currently being trialed(试验 shìyàn) in Hainan is going to be expanded(扩展 kuòzhǎn) across the country.

Instead of being given a paper slip, passengers will be granted access to the trains by simply showing their ID cards(身份证 shēnfèn zhèng) or scanning(扫描 sǎomiáo) the 12306 QR code(二维码 èrwéimǎ) on a smartphone.
