Stranded vessels on Yangtze River start sailing as rain eases

Stranded vessels pass through the five-stage ship locks of the Three Gorges Dam on the Yangtze River in Yichang, Hubei Province on Wednesday, August 1, 2018. Because of heavy rainfall in July, authorities had to release a large amount of excess water from the dam, making it dangerous for many vessels to travel downstream. Now the rains have eased, flood control authorities have reduced the water discharge so that vessels stranded upstream can pass through the locks and continue their journey downstream. [Photo: VCG]
