November 7th marks Li Dong (立冬), or "Start of Winter" on the traditional Chinese lunar calendar, which has 24 solar terms. Li Dong is the first solar term of the winter season, and marks the time when winter begins to impact on farming and people's lives. Usually the day is celebrated by making and eating dumplings. Here we see pupils in Hohhot, the capital of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, celebrating this solar term. [Photo: VCG]
